Several women fall victims of false promises: ROP

Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) said that the Criminal Court in Seeb issued a judgment in a case related to fraud, sexual abuse and witchcraft.


On this subject, Lt Col Ahmad bin Ali Al-Rawas, director, Department of Criminal Investigation in Muscat, said in its report  said, "Because of the direct impact on the individual's dignity and reputation in the society, such cases are not reported by the victims though they happen at regular intervals."


As these cases go unreported for fear of shame, the perpetrators are encouraged to continue with their activities and trap more victims.


Giving details, the head of the Department of Investigation said that most of the victims were given promises with regards to bringing luck in their lives, marriages, child births, increase in the livelihood, solutions to mental and psychological diseases.


In most cases, victims do not report such matters to their parents and other family members, leading to possibilities of a marital discord, including divorce, family quarrels and disintegration.


The accused was convicted for violating Article 257 of the Penal Code and also for the offense committed under the Article 349 of the same law. The  sentence includes imprisonment for five years in one case and an imprisonment for one year with a fine of RO 300 in the second case. Both penalties will be combined and the severe one will be imposed on the accused.


He will be also liable to charges incurred for the legal procedures.
