MUSCAT, Nov 14 -

The Sultanate is seeing a festive atmosphere as preparations for the 47th National Day celebrations gather momentum.

While the portraits of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and Oman’s national flags have been prominently placed across the capital city, innovative lightings and other decorations have been installed along the roads and buildings.

The Supreme Committee for National Day Celebrations has charted out a detailed plan to showcase the new chapter of growth and prosperity of Oman under the leadership of His Majesty.

“Celebrations are planned at all governorates with parades, festivities and fireworks to mark the special occasion,” said an official associated with the festivities.

According to the official, the illuminative lights will be on from November 15 and stay on until the end of the month.

In order to make the occasion a memorable one, the government has already announced a Royal grant for social security families and a financial aid of RO 1 million for citizens to alleviate the impact of fuel price rise.

According to the Muscat Municipality, preparations are in full swing for beautifying the city and cleaning its surrounding areas.

“The process of replacing incandescent lamps with LED lights has been launched. Already 84 energy saving lights have been installed,” the municipality said in a statement.

Car owners have been decorating their cars in the colours of the flag, with slogans Like ‘My Hero, My Sultan’ and ‘I love my leader’, as well as adorning them with photos of His Majesty.

At the same time, the ROP warned that headlights, front windshield, side windows and plate numbers must not be covered by stickers while decorating the cars.

“Unfixed fabrics should not be used to decorate vehicles. The alteration of the shape and colour of the vehicles are also not allowed,” the ROP said.

While many hotels have come up with offers to woo visitors during the National Day holidays, which are yet to be declared, hypermarkets and malls in the city are luring customers with sales promotions.

Oman’s national carrier Oman Air is offering travellers up to 47 per cent discount on fares on select destinations.

Emirates Air is offering travellers in Oman a host of special promotions to some of its most popular destinations.
