Seminar on ‘sports for active society’

MUSCAT: In cooperation with the Shura Council, Oman Olympic Committee represented by the Oman Sport and Active Society Committee will hold on October 25, 2017 a seminar under the theme ‘sports for an active society’ at the Shura Council’s Auditorium.
The seminar will be held under the auspices of Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of the Majlis Ash’shura, in the presence of Shaikh Khalid bin Muhammad al Zubair, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee; and a number of Under-secretaries, advisers and members of the Majlis Ash’shura and State Council as well as sports stakeholders from inside and outside the Sultanate.
The seminar is aimed at establishing the principles under which Oman Olympic Committee represented by the Oman Sport and Active Society Committee will serve the society and propagate awareness among its various segments so that sport can become a life and behavioural pattern whether at home, place of works or any other places.
The partnership with the Majlis Ash’shura in this respect stems from the fact the council of concerned with communicating the proposals and recommendations which are hopefully expected to be concluded at this seminar. The committee also works towards disseminating the culture of exercising sport for all whether in sports hall, playgrounds or even at places of work.
The seminar will include six working papers which will be delivered in two sessions entitled ‘women’s sport and ways of developing it’, ‘societal partnership’, ‘physical activity and health’, ‘The media and its relationship with sport’, ‘Majlis Ash’shura’s effectiveness and its role in strengthening health within the society’ and ‘world association of sports and active society and its role in propagating sports for all’.
The seminar will be held in coordination between the Majlis Ash’shura and Oman Olympic Committee with the aim of raising awareness of the society of the importance of exercising sports by all as this has a very important effect on the health and moral aspects of the individuals in particular and the society in general.
The seminar is expected to come out with important recommendations in this respect.
It is noteworthy that Oman Olympic Committee has put in a place an ambitious plan for four years involving a series of diverse activities with particular emphasis on joint cooperation with a number of organisations such as the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Ministry of Health, Oman Women’s Society, sports clubs and other organisations, the aim being to contribute to the sports mobility in the Sultanate.
