MUSCAT: The Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (ONCECS) organised on Monday a seminar on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which falls on February 11th each year under the patronage of Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) for Scientific Research and Graduate Studies, in the presence of Mohammed bin Sulaim al Yaqoubi, Secretary of ONCECS, and women from various national bodies in the Sultanate and from various scientific disciplines.

The seminar aimed at promoting awareness of the role of women and their contributions in the field of different scientific disciplines by providing them similar opportunities with men and participating in leading roles in a wide range of scientific bodies and activities. It also aims at stimulating the development of policies and programmes for teaching science to encourage greater participation of women and girls and promote the career development of women in the field of science, in addition to the recognition of women’s achievements in this area and encourage girls to explore scientific career paths, as well as ensuring gender equality through participation and effective leadership in seminars and scientific committees. — ONA
