Seeb oust Dhofar in HM Cup

MUSCAT, Oct 8 - Three-time winners Seeb edged eight-time champions Dhofar 4-3 on penalties to move into the quarterfinals of the His Majesty’s Cup on Sunday. In a pulsating match at Seeb Stadium, both teams were locked 2-2 at the full time and 3-3 after the extra-time. On Monday, Sur, Al Musannah and Mirbat made it to the last-eight stage. Sur edged Bidiyah 1-0, while Al Musannah thrashed Yanqul 3-1 and Mirbat beat Salalah 3-2 in extra-time. Marwan al Siyabi put Seeb ahead in the seventh minute through a penalty, while Odai Khdur netted the equaliser for Dhofar in the 15th minute. In the second half, Dhofar started strongly and Qasim Said earned a lead for his team in the 61st minute. Amjad al Harthi (83rd minute) was on target to keep Seeb in the match with a 2-2 score. In the extra time, Dhofar went ahead through a Ouadi Khdur header in the 93rd minute. Seeb players kept their hopes and in the 103rd minute Souri Ibrahim made it 3-3.


SOHAR, Oruba, Majees through


Earlier, Sohar sealed their qualification to the last eight as they beat Samayel 2-0 in Nizwa Sports Complex. Last year’s runners-up Sohar advanced through goals by Said Obaid and Hassan al Ajmi in the 20th and 25th minutes respectively. Al Oruba registered a 1-0 win over Bahla at the Ibri Sports Complex. Thwaini Hadidi scored the winning goal for Al Oruba in the 22nd minute. Majees also made it to the quarterfinals after beating Al Bashayer 2-1 at the Sohar Sports Complex.  Al Bashayer were first to score in the last 16 knock-out match when Baulo Vetor netted in the 11 minute. However, Majees came back through Ahmed Salim’s goal in the 27th minute. Christ Remi netted the second and winning goal for Majees. The Oman Football Association will hold the HM Cup quarterfinal draw at its headquarters in Seeb Stadium on Wednesday.
