MAi AL ABRIA -

Stal Gallery proudly presents its second “Screening in the Yard”, an event that aims to generate public interest in contemporary art and film through challenging the general perception and understanding of what is contemporary.

The gallery is committed to engaging with the community by providing programs that enhance the audience’s cultural experience.

In this event, the gallery will screen Wim Wenders’ compelling and poetic tribute to the late legendary German dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch in the feature documentary “Pina”.

The film was chosen to raise awareness and appreciation of performance arts to a wide audience locally with the focal point being artists, dancers and all people who express life through movement.

Nominated for an Academy Award in the best documentary feature category, L.A. Weekly film critic, Lisa Kennedy, described the film as “a tribute of an artist by an artist, a friend to a friend. But its great genius comes from the mournful, as well as celebratory, reckoning of the performers Bausch pushed, collaborated with and inspired.”

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion consisting of British-Iraqi Visual/Performance Artist & Filmmaker Estabrak Al Ansari and Saudi Writer and Cultural/Curatorial Communicator Tara Al Dughaithar.

The syntax and layers of the film as well as its relevance to the growing Omani art scene shall be explored and examined. At the end of the panel talk, the discussion is going to be opened up to the audience.

The screening will take place at Stal Gallery’s yard on Thursday, March 2 starting at 7:00 PM.
