Sawadi residents take part in tsunami exercise

A number of people took part in the Indian Ocean Wave 18, or tsunami simulation exercise, at the Sawadi beach in Barka on Tuesday.
The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) lauded the efforts of all sectors and thanked the citizens and residents of Al Sawadi and Al Sahil for their cooperation during the simulation exercise. It was organised by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).
A few local residents told the Observer there was a lot of activity in the morning hours, but never experienced any tsunami-like situation.
A Dutch tourist couple said there was no evacuation notice, but we were told the authorities would keep them in the loop.
In the morning, PACDA deployed manpower and machinery in preparation for the Indian Ocean Wave 18 exercise, which took place in the Sahel region with the participation of over 2,000 people.
Earlier, PACA had issued guidelines for residents in and around the Sawadi beach and the visitors, including media teams.
