Sanaa gets IOC honour

MUSCAT: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has honoured Sayyidah Sanaa bint Hamad bin Saud Al Busaidiyah, chairman of Oman Women’s Sports Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC), by conferring upon her the “Women and Sport” Achievement Diploma in recognition of her initiatives and contribution to promoting the development and participation of women and girls in sport. The recognition comes as part of the IOC’s 2016 Awards for women in sport and in accordance with the assessment made by a board of jury composed of members of the IOC’s Women’s Sport Commission which recommended granting Sayyidah Sanaa this prestigious diploma. The recognition is also given to the Chairman of Oman Women’s Sport Committee due to her outstanding services to women’s sport in Oman.


Sayyidah Sanaa has been re-appointed as Chairman of Oman Women’s Sport Committee for the next term of office 2016– 2020 and she was also selected to the membership of the GCC Women’s Sport Organizing Committee. She also has a track record of achievements in the field of women’s sport including the organization of women’s sport seminar held in Oman from 14 – 15 January 2012 where she was selected as Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Director of fourth Women’s Sport Games held in Muscat from 8 -18 March 2015. It is noteworthy that the Women’s Sport Award is granted to one woman only from each continent of the world.
