Salalah is all set to greet Eid holidaymakers and visitors to enjoy Khareef, the signs of which have already been felt with hovering clouds in the city and mist like weather on the mountains.

Keeping in mind Eid holiday rush, the management of Salalah Tourism Festival has decided to arrange some entertainment programmes and open some of the rides at the Municipality Entertainment Centre in Itin from the first day of Eid. Though the festival is opening on June 30, the Gate II of the festival ground would remain open from the first day of Eid.

Roads have been decked up with the posters of Salalah Tourism Festival announcing various entertainment programmes during the festival. Most of the road expansion job has been completed to ensure smooth flow of traffic all through the season.

Akram bin Hassan al Mazraa, Director General at the Directorate of Commerce and Industry in Dhofar, said meetings were being conducted with all the stakeholders to ensure readiness for the STF in terms of supply of food items, status of goods and services and all other facilities related to commerce and industry.

“We are meeting again to discuss the issues related to the STF and a team of officials have been entrusted to monitor the market to ensure that the prices are not inflated during the season and all the items reaching the market are safe for human consumption,” he said.

The authorities are taking steps to ensure proper supply of fuel at all the fuel stations as 70 per cent of the visitors travel to Salalah in their own vehicles.

The commercial establishments have been told to keep their ATM swipe machines in a perfect condition to ensure proper transaction without any delay.

The theme of this year’s STF is ‘Oman Prosperity and Development’, which reflects the atmosphere of brotherhood, love and prosperity being enjoyed by the Sultanate.

Among the new activities introduced this year during the STF would be art and handicrafts festival, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education with the participation of 35 countries. This is besides range of sports events, cultural, artistic and religious competitions, as well as a competition for memorisation of the Holy Quran.

There would also be series of lectures and performances from the GCC and other Arab countries and simultaneous events at Mirbat, Taqah and Hafa Souq.

The Ministry of Tourism has also taken several steps to boost the destination’s image among the visitors by directing all the big and small hotels to maintain the level of hygiene and level of services as per their status.

The ministry is giving stress on proper maintenance of tourism sites in association with other relevant authorities. It has called upon the residents to work for the conservation of the tourism sites, which draw lots of tourists every year and offer employment opportunity to local people.
