Salalah Airport, managed by Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC), has been recognised with Level 2 Reduction of Airport Carbon Accreditation for actively reducing their CO2 emissions.
The airport that joined the programme only a year ago received the award form Airport Council International (ACI)
The airport industry accounts for five person of the air transport sector’s total carbon emissions. Over the past nine years, airports operators in different parts of the world have been gradually channeling their efforts to reduce their CO2 emissions, through an independent programme called Airport Carbon Accreditation.
To apply for certification at one of the 4 levels of the programme, airports must have their carbon footprints independently verified in accordance with ISO14064 (Greenhouse Gas Accounting). Evidence of this must be provided to the administrator together with all claims regarding carbon management processes which must also be independently verified.
