SAI lecture focuses on environment

MUSCAT: State Audit Institution (SAI) hosted Dr Salim al Rawahi, a former associate professor at SQU and the Director of the Board of Directors of Origo Integrated Projects, at SAI headquarters in Al Bustan on Sunday as part of its employees’ annual training programme. The meeting was presided over by Nasser al Rawahi, Deputy Chairman of SAI.


Dr Al Rawahi delivered a lecture on ‘Environment and Sustainable Development’, which was attended by directors-general and directors besides members and staff of SAI.


The lecture dealt with many topics including the advantage of the geographical location of the Sultanate, its role in the biological diversity and the sustainable development in the environment sector. In addition, the presenter touched upon the Sultanate’s role in protecting the environment at the legislative and institutional levels, highlighting its international leading role in this regard.


He also referred to the environmental planning and assessment in the Sultanate, pointing out the four phases of the environmental assessment and its impact on protecting the environment.


Dr Al Rawahi talked about the different types of waste, its processing and management. He also touched upon the causes of pollution and the best ways to face it.


The lecture concluded with a discussion in which the speaker answered questions from the audience. SAI conducts some audit tasks with regard to environment.
