Rustaq, Sept 30 - Elections for the Students Advisory Council were held at the Rustaq College of Education (RCE) recently. Seventeen candidates were in the fray. The elections witnessed a large number of college students voting to choose their candidates for the council membership. They exercised their vote to elect a head and a deputy, besides three committee heads.

The voting process began at Al Yaarba Hall in Rustaq College campus under the supervision of the college Dean Dr Ahmed bin Humaid al Badri. Dr Anwar al Shiyadi, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and the Head of the Students Advisory Council Elections Committee, were also present.

An electronic link was created to accelerate the voting process, while ballot boxes were placed inside the campus.

One of the nominees, Abdullah bin Sulaiman al Nabhani, who is specialised in Biology, said his participation “came from my faith and belief in the importance of students advisory councils in every educational institute”.

“I decided to file my nomination in order to become a link of communication between students and the college administration.”

Another nominee, Intisar al Sammom, specialised in Business Management, said, “My participation came with a deep desire to make changes in issues related to students. I have a big wish to head the council.”

Ahead of the election, advertisements and announcements were made available in the campus and through social media with videos introducing the Students Advisory Council and highlighting its objectives.
