By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: MAY 14 - You will be held responsible for every single message that goes out of your phone, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has said. It clarified that forwarding unfounded news, hearsay and rumours with a tagline ‘forwarded as received’ will not shield you if any damage is caused or name is tarnished by a message sent from your phone. “This act falls under the purview of cybercrime and it will be treated accordingly,” said an ROP official. This comes in the wake of reports on social media that a girl was kidnapped and murdered in Al Khuwair.

Denying these reports, he said: “This message on social media of kidnap and murder is totally baseless and unfounded. Anyone found spreading false news or canards will be punished as per the Omani Penal Code.”
