ROP urges citizens to follow traffic rules

MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has urged citizens and residents to exercise caution while travelling during the holidays. ROP urged people to follow traffic rules and regulations to protect their lives and others.


Colonel Ali bin Sulayem al Falahi, Director-General of Traffic, explained the ROP’s efforts to provide security and safety for road users during the Eid holidays by intensifying patrols and policing.


He spoke about the importance of driving carefully during this season and added that the over speeding is generally the cause of most of the accidents.


He asked drivers to avoid the misconduct, such as racing on public roads that often lead to fatal accidents, “There is no doubt that such misconduct constitutes to a violation of Article 50 of the Traffic Law,” he said.


“A penalty that includes an imprisonment of less than 10 days, not exceeding two months and a fine of not less than RO 100 and not more RO 500 shall be imposed if the motorists endanger the life or property of persons.
