Role of tourism in economy stressed

MUSCAT: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, received on Thursday Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Chairman & President of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, heads of delegations taking part in the 19th meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism and the Executive Office, representatives of the Arab League and World Tourism Organization.
HH Sayyid Fahd welcomed the guests and reviewed the importance of the tourism sector in the development paths of countries as it plays an important role in the economic diversification and it has a positive effect on the social and cultural aspects. HH Sayyid Fahd expressed his appreciation to the role played by the Arab Ministerial Council for Tourism in promoting the Arab intraregional tourism movement.
The conversations during the meeting reviewed areas of enhancing the joint Arab action, as well as promoting and implementing the Arab strategy for tourism and preserving the architectural heritage in the Arab countries, in addition to activating cooperation with the Arab and international organisations in terms of the useful programmes and related training courses for the workers to support the competencies in this sector, besides taking part in the international events, such as exhibitions and seminars that are being organised for this purpose.
The participants expressed their thanks for the Sultanate’s good preparation of this meeting, commending the remarkable progress achieved by it in various spheres, thanks to the wise leadership of His Majesty the Sultan. — ONA
