Road projects boost tourism in Dhank

DHANK: The Dout Town is a town of the Wilayat of Dhank in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah. Located about 15 km away from the centre of the wilayat, it is surrounded from the north by a range of mountains that meets with Yanqul mountains and from the south by the towns of Al Maamour and Al Mazim in the Wilayat of Ibri and from the east by Safalat Fida and the west by the wilayat’s mountains. Sheikh Said bin Salim bin Rashid al Badi, the town’s in-charge official, says the town of Dout is famous for growing the finest date palms.


He adds that the town recently organised dates festival, and the date palms stretch over a large area of the town on the banks of the valley.


He added that the town is also famous for the growing of vegetables and fruit trees, such as grapes, mango and guava as well as animal fodder.


He added that the town has two Falaj for the irrigation of its trees, one is Dawoodi to irrigate crops of the town and the other known as Falaj Al Mahdooth, adding that Al Aflai dam is currently under construction in the town, which will contribute to feed the wells and increase water levels in the town. It is worth mentioning that this dam is being constructed at the expense of the citizens and supervised by the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources.


Of the archaeological monuments in the town of Dout is Dout Fort which tells of the deep-rooted history of the town. The citizens of the town used to get together in the fort to consult among themselves to serve the interests of the town and its needs. In addition, there is Old Al Maasarah Fort, inside of which there is an old mosque that was built in the reign of Imam Azzan bin Qais.


There are a number of old mosques in the town of Dout, including Al Khuba Mosque, al Lambaja and Halalh. The town is known for its caves, like Majdal cave, mountains, like Qaran Al Katmoola, and wadis like Al Afli and Halalh.


Among the old neighbourhoods in the town of Dout are Al Madri, Al Manajeer and Al Balad. The town is famous for its breeding pure-bred camels as the citizens are eager to participate in the Ardha and Mazayna sports inside and outside the wilayat.


Sheikh Saif bin Rashid bin Ali al Badi, municipal council member in the wilayat, says that Dout received a lot of achievements in the Renaissance era in various services, such as electricity, water, transport, communications and education sectors, adding that there are two schools in the town, both for boys and girls, and the town is linked to the centre of the wilayat by a paved road, adding that among the important road projects in the town is the Yanqul-Fida-Dhank Road which helped tourism and social relations with other villages and towns in the Wilayat of Dhank and linked it with the Wilayat of Yanqul, adding that the Governorate of Al Dhahirah is linked with the Governorate of North Al Batinah through the road linking the Wilayats of Yanqul and Sohar. — ONA
