MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications is currently implementing a number of road projects in different governorates of the Sultanate with a total cost of RO 1.909 billion. Many of those projects have reached an advanced stage of implementation. The first phase of Al Sharqiyah Expressway is scheduled to open in the middle of the next year. For the first time in the Sultanate, the road has 2 tunnels one of them is 600-metre long and the other is 1,400-metre long. The tunnelling work will be completed by the end of this year. The ministry has also completed more than 70 per cent (170 km out of 240 km) of the first and second phases of Adam-Thamrait road which links the wilayats of Adam and Haima.— ONA
