Researchers’ dialogue reviews future of Omani economy

MUSCAT: The Assistant General- Secretariat of the Information and Research Centre of the State Council conducted the third module of the “Dialogue Researchers” series on Monday.


The meeting was chaired by Dr Khalid bin Salem al Saidi, Secretary- General of the Council. Members of the Council and staff of the General Secretariat attended the meeting for Information and Research Centre Affairs and the Assistant General Secretariat for meetings and committees.


The Secretary-General of the Council welcomed the audience and pointed out that the programme of researchers’ dialogue, launched in July last year, comes within the framework of the Council’s keenness to create a stimulating and supportive work environment for excellence and job innovation that contributes to the exchange of information among employees, The spirit of cooperation between members of the research and information team.


Following the presentation, Intisar al Wahaibi, Director-General for Development Planning, at the General-Secretariat of the Supreme Council of Planning, presented a visual presentation entitled, “Looking ahead to the future of the Omani economy: the macroeconomic model and the supply and demand model for the labour force.”


The models aimed at drawing a picture of the all the components of the national economy, which are being used to identify the impact of different changes in the performance of the national economy.


She pointed out that the main characteristic of the Omani economy is its response to fluctuations in world oil prices and to analyse the impact of fluctuations in oil prices, the Ninth Five-Year Development Plan adopted several scenarios, each assuming a possible price per barrel of oil.


The plan is based on two basic models: the macroeconomic model, which aims at drawing up a picture of the relations of the Omani economy, how to change the components of this economy, and the model of labour supply and demand balance estimates. It aims to estimate the size and composition of entrants in the labour market in education and training outputs, and estimate the size and composition of demand for the operation of the labour force, cross-sectional details of the most important models.


Sultan bin Juma al Farsi, Acting Director of the Legal Affairs Department, presented a paper on the concept and types of procedural dates with regard to articles 58 (bis) 37 and 38 of the Basic Law of the State,


The civil and commercial proceedings as one of the manifestations of procedural formalities to be taken to ensure the integrity of the proceedings being conducted before the courts, pointing out that the failure to observe those dates during the commencement of litigation proceedings loss of rights and prevent them from the continuation of the judiciary in the consideration of their claim.


It provided an explanation of the concept of the law, and two appointments and procedural divisions. It also reviewed the nature of the dates provided for in articles 58 bis (37 and repeats 38 of the Basic Law of the State.
