The government has clarified on the reports quoting the Ministry of Health with regards to the mandatory health insurance for workers in the private sector. A statement issued today said, "All that is being traded in the social media quoting the Minister of Health that an amount of RO27 will be charged for  health insurance from next year is incorrect."

The Council of Ministers last week approved the proposal submitted by the Capital Market Authority (CMA) setting out a strategy for the introduction of Mandatory Healthcare Insurance for private sector expatriates, effective from 2018. The new law will require employers to arrange medical treatment for expatriate employees by providing medical insurance through a third party insurer.
