An Omani scientist working in Canada has been selected to the Roster of Experts and Scientists at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA), a rare recognition that Oman can be proud of.

Khalid al Nabhani, from Nizwa, who is serving the Memorial University of Newfoundland, as a professor, was added to the roster of experts and scientists at IAEA on November 2017. He was added to the roster of experts and scientists at AAEA on February 2018.

“It is a great honour that my name has been added to the roster of experts and scientists’ database in the field of atomic energy and considered among the international and Arab scientists at both IAEA and AAEA,” Al Nabhani told the Observer in an e-mail interview.

His primary goal is to “facilitate harnessing of atomic power to achieve peace and sustainability through exchange of science and knowledge in the field of nuclear science and related applications, particularly in the area of management of technology-enhanced nuclear radioactive materials co-produced with oil and gas and how they can be used in industrial applications such as conversion of radioactive waste into clean energy”.

“I also pay much attention to challenges related to the improvement of regulations and legislation related to nuclear and radiation protection and safety,” he said.

IAEA and AAEA are world’s leading platforms for scientific and technical cooperation. This would give Al Nabhani enough room for learning and researching while significantly contributing to the two positions he has been awarded.
