MASIRAH: Within the context of the high care and attention paid by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, for His Majesty’s courageous forces to enhance their capabilities to protect the country and its stability and preserve the gains of the Blessed Renaissance, Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, on Thursday supervised the trial launch of the new missile defence system.

The Sultanate has contracted to buy air defence systems from the American company Raytheon for Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), which comes within the plans of modernisation and development witnessed by RAFO along with the other corps of the Sultan’s other armed forces under the glorious reign of His Majesty the Sultan, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

The launching of the system was successful, as the rockets of the new system were able to hit their targets accurately according to the plans to achieve the national objectives of acquiring this modern system.

The event was attended by Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, senior commanders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, other military and security services and senior officers of the Sultan’s Armed Forces.
