Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Culture has said that a prior license and approvals are must for the export of wooden dhows (including display models) from Oman through the land and sea borders.

A statement from the ministry said that application for the licence, based on the models, can be obtained from the General Diwan of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture.

While dhows are prominently used by the fishermen in Oman, luxury vessels for tourism and purpose purposes are constructed in the sultanate on request from the GCC and other nieghbouring countries.

The decision is part of the efforts to regulate Oman's culture and assets, the statement said.
