Population of Oman at 4.6m

MUSCAT: The total population of the Sultanate stood at 4,614,376 by the end of April 2017, marking a 0.4 per cent increase over March figures.


Omani population was 2,493,642 (54 per cent) and expat population 2,120,734, said the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Expats’ number rose by 13,836 against March.


Muscat Governorate is home to 970,236 expats compared with 518,236 Omanis. The total population of the capital city stood at 1,488,733.


Expats also outnumbered nationals in the Dhofar Governorate with 252,420 (54.7 per cent) of the total population against 209,019 nationals.


Al Buraimi Governorate, which has a total population of 114,875, has a skewed expat-national ratio, with expats making up 60,067 or 52.3 per cent of the total population.


The population of North Al Batinah Governorate stood at 762,328, of which 492,443 are Omanis and 269,885 expats.


In Al Dakhiliya Governorate, the total population stood at 463,393, of which 342,806 are nationals.
