Muscat, August 16 - The chairman of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has urged the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs to study challenges, and develop appropriate and quick solutions to encourage investment in the Sultanate.

Said bin Saleh al Kiyumi discussed the difficulties faced by companies in obtaining environmental permits, which negatively affects investment in the industrial sector.

On its part, the ministry provided a visual presentation of the details of Ministerial Decision No 48/2017 on regulations governing the issue of environmental permits.

Earlier, the environment ministry said 30 days was the maximum period required for issuing an environmental permit for large projects provided the environmental requirements are complied with.

The ministry has said applying for permits can be done online through the ministry’s website.

It said the Sultanate is one of the first countries to set environmental requirements for development projects.
