Oman’s ambitious strategy for developing its tourism offering and boosting the industry’s contribution to growth was a key topic of discussion at a meeting held recently between the country’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed bin Nasser al Mehrzi, and a team from Oxford Business Group (OBG).

OBG’s Country Director, Gita Evele and Editorial Manager, Juan Ramirez, met the minister as work began on The Report: Oman 2018, the global research and consultancy firm’s forthcoming publication on the country’s economy. The publication will include an in-depth analysis of the Sultanate’s evolving tourism sector, which together with hospitality, has been identified under the National Programme for Enhancing Economic Diversification as an area ripe for investment.

Subjects explored at the meeting included the government’s plans to focus on both tourism clusters and the attractions that make Oman an authentic experience and set it apart from other destinations, as part of its 2040 tourism strategy.

Oman’s sizeable project pipeline, which is set to help boost capacity as new hotels and other facilities open their doors, was another topic of conversation, along with the move under way to target visitors from as yet untapped markets. The minister and OBG also considered the potential that domestic tourism holds as a channel for growth.

The Report: Oman 2018 will be a vital guide to the many facets of the country, including its macroeconomics, infrastructure, banking and other sectoral developments. The publication will contain a detailed, sector-by-sector guide for investors, alongside contributions from leading personalities and will be available in print and online.

The Report: Oman 2018 will be produced with the National Centre for Statistics and Information, Ominvest, PwC and the international law firm, CMS.
