MUSCAT: A total of 477,930 e-visas have been issued since the system was introduced in the Sultanate in 2017. “In near future, we hope to issue all types of visa electronically,” said Brig Gen Ahmed bin Sultan al Nabhani, Director General of Passports and Residency.
“ROP is striving to introduce new types of visa in the coming days,” he said, adding that 21 services centres have been opened so far. Others are under construction.
Citing ROP’s achievements, Al Nabhani said it has expanded its service umbrella for various sections of society besides increasing number of police manpower, boosting training and qualification as well as upgrading the infrastructure of police services.
Technology has made it possible for the ROP to issue e-passport and e-visa, enabling tourists from many countries, including those from the GCC, to obtain tourist visas online without the need to wait at the border.
