An indication in this regard was given at the healthcare and tourism expo being held at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Tuesday. “Plans are afoot for a rehabilitation centre with facilities to treat and provide medical assistance to those patients with organ failures, cardiovascular problems or victims of road mishaps,” said Dr Mahmood al Rahbi, Chairman of the Organising Committee of IMTEC Oman 2018.

Talking to Observer on the sidelines of the expo, Dr Al Rahbi, who is a senior consultant, emergency medicines at Al Nahda Hospital, said that a programme is also being chalked out to have a special clinic for patients with heart diseases.

“A lot people travel abroad for treatment relating to cardiovascular ailments. Now, there is a plan to have a specialised clinic at major hospitals to provide assistance to those patients,” he said.

The conference and exhibition, being held under the patronage of the Ministry of Health, was inaugurated by Dr Saleh bin Salim al Rahbi, Secretary-General of His Majesty’s Office.

More than 100 healthcare institutions and their representatives from Oman, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe and US are offering a range of medical marketing solutions to all clients involved in the healthcare sector

Organised by East Expo LLC, the event is a platform to get the latest international medical travel trends and there is also presence from around the world to provide free consultancy services to patients.

Dr Saji Kumar, Chairman, Kerala chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry, said, “Conference and exhibition proves to be both timely and strategic as more patients from the Sultanate and Middle East region have expressed preference in seeking medical treatments in countries such as India, Asia, Europe and US.

For India, he said, “The convention would attract international medical tourists to the country as it provides visitors with numerous tourist destinations, sea coasts, beautiful hill stations, backwaters and medical tourism centres providing tried and tested allopathic and traditional health and wellness care.”

Eyad, Head of East Expo LLC, said that the conference on medical tourism and healthcare is an opportunity to examine international, regional and national ‘best practices’ towards achieving the goal

and chart a way forward achieving this objective.
