PIA gets nod for four weekly flights to Salalah

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) on Wednesday approved the increase of three weekly flights of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Salalah and Karachi to four weekly flights, from one weekly flight at the moment. 


PIA started its weekly one Salalah-Karachi flight in March this year, followed by a weekly flight to Islamabad.


he flight will take off from Salalah airport at 00:05 every week on Thursday and will take 2 hours 30 minutes to reach largest city of Pakistan. The arrival time at Karachi will be 03:35 hours Thursday morning.


In December 2016, Salalah Airport last week received the first direct PIA flight from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore. The twice-weekly service is operated by Airbus A320, which accommodates 150 passengers in economy class and eight passengers in first class.


The number of international flights through Salalah Airport stood at 2,791, compared with 1,960 flights, an increase of 42.4 per cent over the same period last year, with 278,602 passengers travelling, compared with 179,896 passengers, an increase of 54.9 per cent. The number of domestic flights through Salalah Airport reached 4,006 by the end of last June, compared to 2,449 flights during the same period last year, an increase of 63.6 per cent, with a total of 400,861 passengers, compared with 312,818 passengers, an increase of 28.1 per cent.
