By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: Feb. 19 - Pharmacists must take responsibility and be accountable for patients’ health, according to organisers of 7th Pharmaceutical Care Conference to be held at the Al Bustan Palace — A Ritz Carlton Hotel. The conference, to be held from February 21 to 23, will host 600 pharmacists and assistant pharmacists, doctors and nurses. It will see paper presentations and debates aimed at “constructing a pharmacy practice model” that focuses on optimising patient care outcomes and safety of patients.

“We are focusing on key issues of sustainable development of pharmacy practice throughout the region. Hence our theme this year is, ‘Towards Excellence in Pharmacy Practice’. We hope this will inspire all of us to sharpen our vision and achieve our goals,” Ph Nussaiba Habib bin Mohammed, Director-General, Directorate-General of Medical Supplies and Chairperson of the conference. “Professional excellence in pharmacy practice requires pharmacists to take responsibility and be accountable for patients’ health outcomes. To achieve this level of professional excellence, pharmacists must exhibit the attributes of a patient-centred practitioner,” she added.

Organised by the Ministry of Health (MoH) represented by Directorate-General of Medical Supplies, the meet will witness local, regional and international participation from different MoH health establishments, Ministry of Defence, Royal Oman Police (ROP), Diwan of Royal Court and Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH), besides participants from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and several other countries.
