People of Oman braved heatwave conditions for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, with temperatures touching nearly 50 degrees Celsius in several cities and towns outside Muscat. “Some interior and desert areas may experience higher temperatures — 44 to 49 degrees Celsius. People should avoid direct contact with the sunlight,” Oman Meteorology department has warned. Muscat is expected to see the mercury levels hover around 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. Nizwa, Ibri, Buraimi and Haima, however, will continue to bear the brunt. Qurayat too witnessed a temperature of 49 degrees Celsius at around 1 pm. Temperatures are expected to drop from Thursday. Salalah continues to be the “coolest” city in the country. Oman Meteorology department has forecast clear to partly cloudy skies along coastal areas of Dhofar Governorate and adjoining mountains.
