MUSCAT, SEPT 16 - Hundreds of people flocked to an event staged by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) at Muscat Grand Mall to showcase the Company’s Estidama (Sustainability) energy management campaign at the weekend. The educational programme included live discussions with visitors, answering questions and offering information on how to become part of the change towards greater environmental conservation and sustainability. Students were invited to participate in a workshop with Greek art teacher Kostis Grivakis, who gave a hands-on art course throughout the event held over two days on how to use plastic waste and turn it into art products. Visitors also had the opportunity to experience virtual reality with videos highlighting the ocean of plastic waste.

Hiba al Maskari, who participated in the workshop, said: “I really had to come to this workshop because we can save Oman by recycling and I hope to have such workshops in the future.”

The event in the mall’s central atrium also featured the five young project winners of PDO’s Renewable Energy Awards, a nationwide PDO-sponsored contest which takes place annually under the auspices of the Ministry of Education.

The 2018 winners are:

• First place: “Tarsheed” Application by Reem bint Ahmed al Qassabi and Rayyan bint Ahmed al Qassabi of Hasfa bint Omar Basic Education School.
