Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has staged a Lean business efficiency training session for personnel from 23 key government and private sector bodies. Around 40 delegates attended the five-hour engagement to raise awareness levels on how to drive continuous improvement, streamline processes and reduce waste in their own workplaces.

Organisations represented at the event included: the Diwan of Royal Court, the Ministries of Finance, Defence, Education, Environment and Climate Affairs and Manpower, Tourism, and the Public Authority for Electricity and Water, Ithraa, Bank Dhofar, Public Prosecution and the Public Authority for Consumer Protection.

Representatives from Innovation Park Muscat, GuTech, Suhar and Al Sharqiyah universities also attended the session which gave an overview of Lean principles, methodologies and tools.

PDO has championed the Lean philosophy as a way of driving greater efficiency and generated $1.2 billion in terms of additional value, cost reduction and avoidance through its deployment across its business. PDO People and Change Director Ibtisam al Riyami, who is leading the Lean drive in PDO, said: “The objective of the engagement was to spread Lean ways of working outside PDO’s borders to other institutions across the nation.

“In a world of limited resources, competitive business environments and where the stakes are too high not to provide efficient and effective services, adopting the Lean methodology becomes an essential element of daily activity.

“Put simply, Lean limits the waste of resources, whether human or financial, effort or time, and allows an organisation to continuously improve and deliver more with fewer resources.”

The public awareness engagement was the fourth held by PDO to spread the Lean message and 153 representatives of public and private organisations have attended such sessions at the Company this year.
