MUSCAT: The Omani Woman Association (OWA) is concerned with the role of girls in the society through provision of many social and educational programmes organised by the Omaniya Cultural Salon at OWA to promote girls’ capabilities and develop their talents. OWA has been organising since November 2016 a special programme for the Girls’ Cultural Club titled ‘My Excellence is a Giving’ at Al Fath School in the Wilayat of Bausher. The programme aims to take care of the girls’ capabilities, talents and their free time and use them in meaningful work that contributes to raising their cultural, social, behavioural and moral level, in addition to instilling the concept of citizenship, the consolidation of foundations of family communication and promoting positive thinking and love of science.

Dr Badriyah bint Nasser al Wahibiyah, Deputy Chairwoman of OWA in Muscat, Supervisor of the activities of the Girls’ Cultural Club, said that ‘My Excellence is a Giving’ programme includes several stages. She pointed out that the first stage where 84 participants took part, started in November and December of last year through organising a series of seminars, lectures and training programmes in a number of important areas and disciplines that serve the Omani girl. The first experiment focused on the age group of 11 to 17 years old to provide a variety of programmes in a range of topics, including positive thinking, planning, goal-setting and training sessions in thinking.

The second stage where 45 participants took part, began in January 2017 and ends this month. The programme included smart games session provided by Talal al Jabri, Supervisor at the Ministry of Education. The participants showed interest in the programme through exchange of ideas and dialogue with everyone. Dr Al Wahibiyah organised a workshop entitled “Book Reading,” during which she addressed types of reading, five-step reading art, skills of summarising and highlighting the basics for choosing the right book, in addition to a number of writing activities and enriching reading through a series of books. — ONA
