Over 800,000 visitors to Salalah till date

​Salalah: The number of visitors to the Salalah Khareef season at the end of the 11th week reached 811,170. The arrival of tourists increased by 28.7 percent compared to the same period in 2017, which was 630,234.


According to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the number of visitors fell by 74.3 per cent to 14,314 compared to 55,670 visitors during the tenth week of the current season. NCSI Statistics showed that the number of visitors who arrived by land during the end of the 11th week reached 80.4 per cent to 652,095 visitors, which is a rise of 37.7 per cent compared to 473,614 visitors during the same period of 2017.


The number also showed a drop of 81.4 per cent to 8,402 from 45,209 visitors in the 10th week of the current season.  A total of 159,075 visitors reached Dhofar by air, an increase of 1.6 per cent over the same period in 2017, which was registered at 156,620 visitors.


The number of visitors by air dropped by 43.5 per cent compared to the 10th week of the current season, with the number of arrivals on domestic flights decreasing from 7,928 visitors in the 10th week to 4,41 visitors in the 11th week.


The number of visitors arriving by international flights also fell by 41.9 per cent to reach 1,471 in the 11th week compared to 2,533 in the previous week.


The tourists from Gulf regions, including the Omanis, accounted 91 per cent of the total visitors to the Salalah autumn season during the end of 11th week, reaching 738,053 visitors compared to 566,303 visitors during the same period of 2017, which is a rise of 30.3 per cent. The number of visitors of Asian nationality reached 46,668, which is an increase of 10.2 per cent against the same period last year, when it was 42,348.


Of the total number of visitors, 20,876 were from other Arab countries, 3,503 from European countries, and 2,070 were from other countries.The statistics showed that 76.6 per cent, or 10,963 visitors, during the 11th week were residents of the Sultanate and 3,351 were non-residents.
