By Business Reporter — MUSCAT: APRIL 22 - The Muscat-Suhar pipeline project (MSPP) has achieved an important safety milestone by recording 10 million man-hours without Lost Time Injury (LTI). The project, with its many components located at Al Jifnain, is one of the most important strategic and investment growth projects of Orpic. Andres Suarez, General Manager — Orpic Logistics, said, “Safety is our number one priority.  We have a diligent and experienced team who is committed to ensuring the construction and future operation of this project is achieved to its highest standards. We believe that all incidents can be avoided. We have a wide range of tools to help us but it all starts with our attention and commitment. We believe that tomorrow is our reward for working safely today.”

Construction of the Muscat-Suhar pipeline project (MSPP) is slated for 100 per cent completion in Q4 2017.   This project will deliver numerous social, economic and environmental benefits, including: providing job opportunities for Omanis and improving road safety, reducing pollution by reducing truck traffic by 70 per cent; and support the Muscat International Airport expansion. This is in addition to many more knock-on benefits for the Sultanate’s economic development.

Additionally, pre-commissioning activities have started at Al Jifnain terminal, while progress on the Muscat International Airport terminal and pipeline works is at the 68 per cent mark.

The overall project is 92 per cent complete with commercial operation expected to start at Al Jifnain Terminal by Q3 2017.

The Muscat-Suhar pipeline project and Al Jifnain Terminal project will connect Orpic’s Mina Al Fahal refinery in Muscat with its Suhar refinery via a two-way, 290 kms, multi-product pipeline to an intermediate distribution and storage facility in Al Jifnain.

The Muscat Suhar pipeline project and Al Jifnain Terminal project is split into three sections: MAF-Jifnain Terminal: 40-kms (10 inches), Jifnain Terminal-Airport: 30-kms (10 inches), and Suhar-Jifnain Terminal: 220-kms (18 inches).

The project is being delivered by Orpic Logistics — a joint venture partnership established between Orpic, and Spanish firm Compañía Logística de Hidrocarburos (CLH).
