Orpic fetes graduation of 171 Omani trainees

Under the auspices of Shaikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service, Orpic (Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries) celebrated this week the graduation of 171 Omani trainees and the welcoming of 147 trainees at a gala ceremony held in Radisson Blue Hotel in Suhar.


These graduates are part of Orpic’s comprehensive training programme, which Orpic undertakes on a yearly basis.


The event, felicitated employees from different disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and instrument engineers, HSE fire fighters, process operators and engineers who will form Orpic’s first taskforce cell working in one of the company’s major growth project, the Liwa Plastic Industries project ( LPIC).


The ceremony was also presided by senior government officials, dignitaries, CEO of Orpic and the executive team.


The Orpic Trainee Development Programme was established in 2011 and has trained more than 884 trainees to date.


It is a purpose wise tailored training programme made up of an intense six months classroom training in state of the art training facilities and curricula.


This is followed by another six months of on-the-job training where trainees are given the chance to experience and practice the real working life situations in Orpic’s operations and activities, enabling them to apply acquired knowledge and sharpen their skills.


Speaking on the occasion, Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Orpic stated, “The training of young Omani youth is very crucial for it ensures strong, sustainable and balanced growth of Orpic and the national economy.”


Ahmed bin Saleh al Jahdhami, Orpic’s CEO, said, “Orpic is gearing up to be a globally competitive company in the oil refining and petrochemical industries sector, utilising Omani competencies that we are proud of. It is a vision that cannot be realised without a qualified workforce that is dedicated and passionate.
