MUSCAT: The Planning and Follow-up Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its fourth meeting for this year on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Shaikh Saif bin Hilal al Hosni, OOC Vice-Chairman and Chairman of Planning and Follow-up Committee. The committee discussed the ongoing preparations for participation in the 18th Asian Games Jakarta 2018 and the third Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018. It reviewed the plans and programmes of sports associations and the outcome of joint meetings held by the assigned working team with the sports associations and technical staff. It also reviewed the strategic objectives and qualitative standards for participation in accordance with the regional, continental and international raking of each team and each player. The technical standards were also assessed in accordance with the strategic and methodological approach put in place by the committee.
However, final participation will be decided on July 1, 2018 following the recommendation which the committee will raise to the OOC Board of Directors to confirm initial participation in the 18th Asian Games 2018 in the following sports: athletics, swimming, shooting, football, beach volleyball, tennis, sailing, hockey, weightlifting and paragliding. The committee recommended participation in the Youth Olympic Games in athletics, swimming and sailing depending on the results of qualification competitions.
