Oman’s September inflation at 1.60pc

MUSCAT: The Sultanate’s year-on-year consumer price for September touched 1.60 per cent, driven by a rise in transport, furnishings, household equipment, household maintenance and education, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


The major reason for inflation was a 3.45-per cent rise in furnishings, household equipment and household maintenance compared with the same period last year.


Transport witnessed a 3.24-per cent rise in September 2017 compared with the same period last year, while education increased by 2.84 per cent.


Food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.80 per cent, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels rose 1.47 per cent. The price of clothing and footwear increased by 0.32 per cent.


While cost of healthcare rose by 0.42 per cent, that of recreation and culture went up by 0.33 per cent.


Communication cost fell by 2.95 per cent.


In food and beverages, the price of fish and seafood turned costlier by 2.51 per cent, vegetables by 8.47 per cent and fruits by 2.31 per cent.


The price of breads and cereals witnessed a slight rise of 0.04 per cent, meat by 0.84 per cent, and sugar and jams by 0.68 per cent.


The price of milk, cheese and eggs increased by 0.86 per cent and non-alcoholic beverages by 0.09 per cent.


The price of oils and fats declined by 0.02 per cent. Hotels registered a 0.04-per cent decline. — ONA
