Muscat, Oct 1 - Omani students can no longer join four Malaysian higher education institutions, whose accreditation has been revoked over different violations.

The institutions are: University of Sains Islam Malaysia, SEGI University, Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and Binary University of Management.

Their accreditation was revoked by the Committee for Recognition of Non-Omani Higher Education Institutions and the Equivalence of Educational Qualification.

The accreditation has been revoked for the institutions starting from second semester for the academic year 2017-18.

The Cultural Attaché in Malaysia, Yahya Salam al Mandhari, said: “Most of the reasons for revoking accreditation are academic and administrative”, including students’ complaints, issues related to academic advisers and visas.

“They committed irregularities such as not committing to the rules of the countries of scholarship for allowing students to study on tourist visas. They issued graduation certificates with contradicting dates and weren’t responsive to the Cultural Attaché on solving the problems of students.” Al Mandhari said if these universities want the accreditation restored, they should follow procedures and submit an application on the ministry’s website. It will then be evaluated based on rules.
