The Consulate General of Oman in Mumbai has informed all citizens visiting India to avail medical visa to all regions of India, including Mumbai to avoid the situation of Indian hospitals refusing to  to do the treatment.

Medical visa is admissible to all foreign nationals seeking Medicare in recognized specialty hospitals or treatment centers in India.

From April 1, 2017, Medical Visa applicants will have to pay RO30.9 for a visa valid up to six months and RO46.3 for visa valid up to one year.

The Embassy of India, Muscat, has taken steps to boost medical tourism to India, including fast processing of Medical Visa applications and opening of a separate counter at BLS Visa Application Centre for receiving applications for Medical Visas.

The decision to reduce Medical Visa fee as compared to Tourist Visa fee will benefit the patients and their attendants. All Omani nationals, who want to visit India to avail world class medical treatment at competitive costs, are requested to travel to India on Medical Visa only and not on tourism or any other visa.

However, additionally medical visa application form should be accompanied with a referral letter or preliminary medical advice from the Oman hospital, recommending specialized medical treatment abroad and a letter from the medical hospital in India, indicating appointment or showing willingness to undertake treatment.

The visa is granted for a maximum period of one year or for the period of treatment whichever is less for seeking medical attendance only in reputed/recognized specialized hospitals/treatment centers in India.

It is mandatory for the foreigners coming on Medical visa to get themselves registered well within the period of 14 days from the date of arrival with the concerned FRROs/FROs, in case the applicant is required to stay in India for more than 6 months for the treatment.

Attendant/family members of the patient coming to India for medical treatment shall be granted medical attendant visa co-terminus with the 'Medical Visa' of the patient. Such visa may be granted to the spouse/ children or to those who have blood relations with the patient. Such a visa can be issued to a maximum of two persons in the family.

Medical attendant visa holders are also required to get themselves registered within the period of 14 days of arrival in India with the concerned FRROs/ FROs, in case the applicant is required to stay in India for more than 6 months for the treatment.

Such visa will be valid for maximum three entries during one year.
