MUSCAT: Omani students studying in US states that are likely to be hit by Hurricane Florence have been asked by Oman’s Cultural Attache in Washington to leave their campuses and move to safer places.

Dr Talal al Balushi, a cultural attaché in the US capital, said 115 students (university and post-graduate students in North and South Carolina) have been asked to evacuate.

The Cultural Attaché in Washington has started the evacuation process, said the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE). It said the attache’s circular has urged the students to leave the campus as soon as the universities close its doors.

Students have been asked to travel to safer states like Florida.

Students will be compensated for the costs of evacuation, which will include car rents, travel tickets and hotel/food expenses from September 11 to 16.

In any emergencies, contact the mission on 5717220000, said the attache’s circular.
