Omani Environment Day was celebrated by the Department of Environment & Climate Affairs, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, at Nizwa Cultural Center on Monday.

The department also organised an exhibition of local plants.

It was held under the auspices of Mubarak bin Nasser al Sabahi, Head of Administrative and Financial Affairs Department and the Director of the Environment and Climate Affairs Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The exhibition included a special corner for the owners of agricultural plantations.

The Directorate of Agriculture & Fisheries and the Center for Agricultural Research in Al Dakhiliyah also participated in the exhibition.

The exhibition aims to help owners of plantations learn the methods of trimming plants.

The occasion offered an opportunity to owners showcase their small and medium-sized projects and identify the kinds of trees they have.

Every year, the Sultanate celebrates Omani Environment Day, which falls on January 8, as an “expression of participation in the global efforts to preserve the environment”.The celebration was first held in the country in January 1996 following a directive from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
