Omani Derby race at Al Rahba race course on January 19

BARKA: The Omani Derby Cup, organised by the Royal Horse Racing Club (RHRC), will be held on January 19, on Friday at Al Rahba race course in the Wilayat of Barka under the auspices of Sayyid Fahr bin Fatik bin Fahr al Said. 1st Brigadier Abdul Razaq bin Abdul Qadir al Shahwarzi, Commander of the Royal Cavalry, said that the Royal Horse Racing Club has completed all preparations for the launch of the Omani Derby Cup, which is one of the elite classical races in the Sultanate.


A number of elite pure Arabian and thoroughbred horses, which earned top positions during this year’s competitions, will take part at the eight-round Derby. He added that the Royal Cavalry’s male and female horse riders will stage some performances between the rounds.


He also noted that while the first round is dedicated for the pure Arabian horses for 1,200 metres, the second round is dedicated for the pure Arabian horses for 1,600 metres, the third round is dedicated for the thoroughbred horses for 1,600 metres, the fourth round is dedicated for Elite Cup for the thoroughbred horses for 1,600 metres and the fifth round will be dedicated for pure Arabian horses for 1,600 metres for Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Apprentice World Championship (IFAHR) with 14 participants from various countries of the world.


The sixth round is dedicated for the Elite Pure Arabian Horses Cup for 1600 meters, the seventh round is for pure Arabian horses on World Competition Cup for Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) with the participation of 14 horse riders from various countries of the world. The 8th round is dedicated for pure Arabian horses for 2,000 metres on the Omani Derby Cup. — ONA
