Muscat: A joint meeting between the Omani and US officials discussed weapons control and border security was held at the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday. The Omani side was headed by Dr Mohammed bin Awadh al Hassan, Acting Under-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, while the US side was led by the Director of the Export Control and Border Security Programme. This programme aims at assisting governments, supporting national efforts to meet the requirements of UN Security Council Resolution 1540 on preventing weapons of mass destruction including the nuclear weapons, biological weapons, chemical weapons and dual-use strategic goods from reaching terrorists.

The programme also promotes several aspects of export control and border security, the most important of which are the legal and regulatory framework, licensing procedures and practices, methods and equipment for law enforcement and inter-agency coordination.
