Oman, US boost military cooperation

MUSCAT: Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, received in his office at Mu’askar Bait Al Falaj on Monday James Matisse, US Secretary of Defence and his accompanying delegation.


The two sides held an official session of talks in which they reviewed fields of the existing military cooperation between the Sultanate and US and means of enhancing them. It also discussed several matters of common concern between the two friendly countries.


The US Defence Secretary expressed his thanks for the existing cooperation between the two defence ministries. He commended the facilities rendered by the Sultanate for the US in terms of the joint exercises and the facilities rendered for the military vessels visiting the Sultanate’s ports.


The Omani side also benefit from the training and courses held at the US military institutes and colleges.


He affirmed to continue enhancing these relations and cooperation to serve interests of the two friendly countries.


The session was attended by Mohammed bin Nasser al Rasbi, Secretary-General at the Ministry of Defence, Lt Gen Ahmed bin Harith al Nabhani, Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), Air Vice Marshal Matar bin Ali al Obaidani, Commander of the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO), the US ambassador to the Sultanate, and the delegation accompanying the guest.
