Oman U-16 team gears up for AFC Cup

Oman national under-16 football team concluded their external camp in Iran on Wednesday as part of preparation for the AFC Asian U-16 Championship in Malaysia from September 20 to October 7. During Iran camp, Oman played two friendly matches against Iran. In both matches, Yaqoob al Sabahi’s boys suffered losses with 1-0 and 2-1 margin respectively.


The team utilised all the substitutions during the matches and tested different line-ups to evaluate the player’s readiness, fitness and technical capabilities ahead of the Asian Cup.


Meanwhile, Oman U-16 team will have a short external camp in Malaysia prior the kick off the competitions of the Asian Cup. As per the schedule, Oman will take on Indonesia on September 12 in a friendly match. The last preparation friendly match will be against Australia on September 15. Oman head coach is likely to finalise the starting list of the team for Asian cup matches after the match.


Oman are placed in Group B along with Yemen, DPR Korea and Jordan. The Sultanate boys will commence their campaign at Asian Cup with a match against Yemen on September 21 at MBPJ Stadium.


In the second match, Oman will meet Jordan at Petaling Jaya Stadium, while the last match will be against DPR Korea at the same venue.


Oman Under-16 head coach Yaqoob al Sabahi has selected the best players to represent the national squad. The selection process began from the league after an evaluation of player’s technical and physical performance during the matches. Also, then technical committee followed up the players’ technical performances in the camps.
