MUSCAT: The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) has approved Oman’s participation in nine events at the Islamic Solidarity Games 2017 to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 12 to 22. The newly elected OOC board, in its first meeting, approved the Sultanate’s participation in 9 competitions — handball, volleyball, chess, athletics, equestrian, bowling, taekwondo, shooting and tennis. The OOC board made the decision after reviewing the memorandum submitted with regard to the participation in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. The OOC Board of Directors on Tuesday held its first meeting after being elected last month under the chairmanship of Shaikh Khalid bin Mohammed Al Zubair, OOC Chairman.

The meeting discussed and approved a number of items on the agenda, including record of meeting of the Elective General Assembly held on January 31. The Executive Office was approved under the chairmanship of Shaikh Khalid with Taha al Kishry, Khalid al Aadi and Mohsin al Masroori being members. The Board decided to conduct a study on the articles and clauses of the OOC’s Statutes taking into account the observations made by the General Assembly. A specialised team will be set up for this purpose, particularly since OOC has a good experience in this regard when it drafted the dispute resolution and arbitration for sport regulations which was commended by the International Olympic Committee.
