MUSCAT: The Board of Directors of Oman Swimming Association (OSA) held its first periodical meeting for this year at its premises on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, OSA Board Chairman, and in the presence of all board members. The meeting was opened by the chairman who welcomed the members and commended the efforts made over the past period and hoping that further successes would be achieved over the next period. The meeting discussed a number of items on the agenda and issues of priority for the upcoming state and approved the record of the previous board meeting held on October 15, 2017. The attendants familiarised themselves with the follow-up report in respect of the previous meeting. Recommendations raised by the OSA’s Finance Committee and Marketing Committee were discussed and approved.

The Board discussed and approved the recommendations raised by the OSA’s Teams and Coaches Committee, including professional contract for swimmers, finalisation of enrollment of swimmer Issa al Adawi to the Japanese university, team’s plan for the first quarter of 2018 and participation in the International Swimming Championship, which will be held in Algeria from May 2 to 6. The meeting also approved the executive steps for the introduction of swimming in sports clubs and agreed to the appointment of three swimming coaches. The recommendations also included participation in World Olympic Beach Games scheduled to be held in the city of San Diego, United States, in 2019 and the 8th Asian Open Water Swimming Championship scheduled to be held in Thailand from February 24–25.

The Board approved the recommendations raised by the Competitions and Referees Committee, namely the adoption of the committee’s activity programme and approval of conditions relating to the 12th Oman Open Water Championship. The Board reviewed the OSA’s financial standing and emphasised the need for acclimatization with the general situation.
