MUSCAT, May2 - Oman sports media committee held its first meeting late on Tuesday at the Oman Journalism Association building. The meeting was presided by Salim al Jahwari, head of the committee. The committee addressed all the agenda of the meeting. The meeting was commenced by re-establishment of the new committee chaired by Salim al Jahwari, head of committee, Salim al Habsi and Yousef al Wahaibi as vice chairmen while Khalifa al Rawahi was named as secretary of the committee.  Al Jahwari commenced the meeting by thanking the members for their efforts in the last season. “Looking forward for another successful new phase of Oman sports media committee,” Al Jahwari added.

It was agreed in the meeting to set a new database for all the media sportspersons representing journalism, radio and TV. Also, the committee suggested to have some sports activities and events in the holy month of Ramadhan like an open meeting day for sports media and organising some sports tournaments in bowling, chess and karting specialised for members belonging to Oman Journalism Association. The committee reviewed the possibility of participating members covering different national teams locally and internationally in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Olympic Committee and Sports Associations.

There were different plans discussed in the meeting for improving the skills of sports media like to have some special workshops, lectures and seminars. Also, some members of the committee proposed that the Sultanate host the Arab Sports Journalism Association’s election. Another suggestion raised by the committee was to bring back Oman’s Sport Oscar Awards as it was stopped last year for some reasons. The sub-marketing team has been nominated and is presided by Salim al Habsi, Yousef al Wahaibi, Hamdan al Badi and Qais al Falahi.
