Oman, Qatar strengthen trade, investment ties

MUSCAT: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmood al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, on Thursday received Ali Shareef al Emadi, Minister of Finance of Qatar, Head of the Qatari side in meetings of the 18th round of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee.


The Qatari guest conveyed greetings of Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, Emir of Qatar, along with his best wishes to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and his government.


After welcoming the guest and his accompanying delegation, HH Sayyid Fahd affirmed that the strong bilateral relations between the two countries are witnessing a remarkable development, thanks to the sincere desire of both sides to promote them for the interest of the two brotherly peoples.


Conversation during the meeting touched on means of supporting the joint cooperation, methods of developing its economic, investment, trade and tourism fields, establishing more projects particularly in the economic zones and exchanging expertise, in addition to stressing the importance of activating the bilateral agreements and memoranda of understanding signed between the two countries.


The meeting also reviewed several current issues at the regional and international arenas.


Al Emadi hailed the comprehensive progress being witnessed by the Sultanate at the domestic and foreign levels. He also stressed the importance of the outcomes of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee meetings, as well as the talks with the officials in the Sultanate.


The meeting was attended by Darwish bin Ismaeel al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs, Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee, Jassim Saif al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar, Ali Fahd al Hajri, Ambassador of Qatar to the Sultanate, and Najib bin Yahya al Balushi, Sultanate’s Ambassador to Qatar.


JOINT SESSION


Meanwhile, during its 18th meeting in Muscat on Thursday, the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee launched the second stage of Jabro rock export project to Qatar.


The Omani side in the meeting was headed by Darwish bin Ismaeel al Balushi, Minister Responsible for Financial Affairs and Head of the Omani side in the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee, and the Qatari side was led by Ali Shareef al Emadi, Minister of Finance and Head of the Qatari side in the committee.


The meeting aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, cementing friendship bonds and activating bilateral cooperation between the two sisterly countries in all fields.


The meeting discussed means of enhancing and deepening bilateral cooperation in investment, economic, commercial, cultural, tourism, sports and other fields that serve common interests. The meeting also followed up what have been agreed upon in the previous meetings.


The meeting also discussed means of facilitating all difficulties facing the joint ventures including the Karwa Auto Motors Factory, Diyar Ras Al Hadd and Al Mira projects.


The two sides stressed the importance of exerting more efforts and benefiting from the available resources to achieve the targeted aims and the aspirations of the leaders of the two countries His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, Emir of Qatar.


The Committee signed minutes of the meeting including the recommendations agreed upon.


The meeting was attended by Jassim Saif al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications of Qatar, and a number of representatives from relevant organisations in both countries.


MEETING WITH ALAWI


Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdallah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs, received in his office on Thursday Ali bin Shareef al Emadi, Minister of Finance in Qatar, and Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications in Qatar, during the meeting of the Omani-Qatari Joint Committee.


The two sides reviewed the relations binding the two countries in various fields, besides discussing means of promoting cooperation on the economic, trade and investment areas between the two countries.


The meeting was attended by officials in the Foreign Ministry and the Qatari Ambassador to the Sultanate.
